Splenda

You may have heard our exciting news about Splenda, our diabetic alert dog in training; and, Landon, the seven year old boy who has Type 1 Diabetes, and their new friendship. After interviewing and searching for the family that is best suited for a service dog like Splenda, Jeff and Adrienne Murphrey decided to donate her to Landon and his family. Splenda is 1 1/2 years old and has learned her manners, basic obedience and service training for the last year here at Canine Country Club.

She is now learning Landon’s scents to detect when he is out of normal range. Landon is a 7 year old boy who loves to be outside and do all the things a 7 year old boy likes to do, but he has to contend with his diabetes. In a normal day for Landon, he must “check his levels” for his blood sugar six to eight times a day as well as two times in the middle of the night. Splenda will now be another part of Landon’s team to help make him aware when his levels are out of normal range. Splenda’s job will be to alert Landon and his family when she detects by Landon’s scent that his levels are out of range. We will keep you posted on their growing friendship and training progress.
